Registered Nurse School-Based Health Team

Waitākere College is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our health team in a large co-educational, diverse community in West Auckland. Our priority to support students the Waitākere Way: Ako Learning / Manaakitanga Caring / Tapu Respect.
We are looking for an experienced registered nurse with a current NZ practising certificate.  This position is full time, fixed term (18 months). This is a term time only position, which means you do not work school holidays.

About you

  • Must have a current NZ Annual Practising Certificate
  • Must be a New Zealand citizen or resident
  • Passionate about working with Rangatahi in a positive, friendly manner
  • Minimum of 5 years post-grad experience
  • Experience using Medtech Evolution would be preferred, but not required
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Have postgraduate qualifications in youth health/advanced nursing (or be prepared to work towards this)
  • Strong understanding of working with Whānau from multicultural backgrounds
  • Fulfilling contractual obligations to Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand

The role at Waitākere is varied and no two days are the same. You will be part of a dedicated team at the Hauora Centre, delivering integrated health and wellbeing for students (years 9 to 13) and supporting the needs of our Inclusion Support Centre. We work collaboratively with Dr Clinics' two mornings a week and the Pastoral Care Team at the College. You will be joining two full time nurses and we alternate between year 9  health assessments (HEEADSSS training will be provided) and day to day running of clinics and external providers supporting the needs of our youth. 

We provide medication under standing orders or as Community Nurse Prescribers to deliver accessible care for all.

Physiotherapist

Waitākere College is looking for a motivated physiotherapist to join our dedicated multidisciplinary team in our Te Whare Rangimārie | Inclusion Support Centre to support students’ physical development, participation, and access to learning within our school community.

This is a part-time role working approximately 30 hours per week and has the flexibility that working in a school offers.

We are an ORS fund holder centre within Waitākere College. Our centre has 67 students and a highly professional and passionate team of teachers, therapists and support staff.

In this rewarding position, you will:

  • Provide physiotherapy to enhance gross motor development, posture, mobility, and functional independence, enabling students to fully engage with the curriculum
  • Assess and manage physical, mobility, and postural support needs, including recommendations and applications for specialised equipment, assistive technology, and orthotics
  • Coordinate and work with the orthotics team (an orthotics clinic is held once a month) to provide students from Waitākere College and neighbouring schools the opportunity to work with an orthotist
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary team with an occupational therapist, speech-language therapists, teachers, and support staff, to develop coordinated and holistic plans
  • Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) by setting meaningful and achievable goals tailored to each learner
  • Offer guidance and practical strategies to teachers, teacher aides, and whānau to support students’ everyday functioning and participation
  • Meet your professional board requirements to maintain your annual practising certificate. 

You will:

  • Be a registered physiotherapist with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand (or eligible for registration)
  • Have experience working with children and young people

Teacher of Textiles Technology Full Time, Fixed Term (maternity leave)

Required for: Term 4, 2026 to the end of Term 1, 2027

We are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, and student-focused Textiles Technology Teacher to join our vibrant Technology Department for a short-term maternity cover position. The successful applicant will be capable of teaching Textiles Technology across junior levels, with the ability to support senior NCEA classes. You will be taking over well-established classes with structured design projects already in place, ensuring a smooth transition for both you and our students.

Applicants should have a strong familiarity with the New Zealand Technology Curriculum and NCEA framework, alongside hands-on expertise in garment construction, pattern adaptation, fabric properties, and design processes. Please state any other Technology subjects you are able to teach in your application. Experience working within a highly diverse, multicultural school community is essential, as is a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive teaching practices.

You must hold a current New Zealand Teaching Practising Certificate (or be in the final stages of processing). Applications from Beginning Teachers (PCTs) are welcome.

Guidance Counsellor Full Time Permanent Start Term 3

 We are seeking a counsellor to join our pastoral care team on a full time basis.

We are seeking an experienced Counsellor to be the HOD of our guidance department. The candidate will be experienced with Narrative Therapy as our way of working with young people at Waitākere College. 

The successful candidate will have confidence and capabilities with technology, and be an active member of our Professional Development Programme, including Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, as well as an expectation of involvement in extracurricular activities on offer at the College. The successful candidate will be running a department and leading four other counsellors.
