Māori Youth Worker 

Waitākere College is seeking a Māori Youth Worker to support the rangatahi, whānau and kaiako of the school.  The main aspect of the job is supporting the pastoral care and wellbeing of rangatahi across all aspects of school life.   

The successful candidate will have proven experience in similar roles working with youth.   They must be proficient in the Te Reo Māori and be able to lead and support the tikanga of the College.

This is a 40 hour per week, term time only position (40 weeks per year).  You will need to have a full NZ clean driver’s licence.

As per Ministry of Education regulations, you will be required to undergo a Police Check

Teacher Aide 

Fixed Term (end date 6 December 2024 with possible renewal for 2025)
Term Time only – 30 hours per week – Term Time Only

Waitākere College is looking for a Teacher Aide to work in our Te Whare Rangimārie/The Inclusion Support Centre.  This is a place where students with specific needs can grow emotionally, socially, cognitively and physically in a challenging and supportive environment, which encourages independence.

We seek an enthusiastic, caring, organised and motivated Teacher Aide to join the Te Whare Rangimārie to support our special needs students within our centre and in mainstream classes.

Essential skills required:

  • Patience
  • Empathy
  • Able to multitask
  • Strong English language skills
  • A willingness to learn and take direction
  • Able to build positive working relationships with staff and students
  • Experience working with teenagers is preferred
  • Need to have a good level of physical fitness
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Full NZ driver's licence is required

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting students in lessons under the direction of the teacher
  • Supporting small groups of students under the direction of the teacher
  • Assisting students who have specific special needs with their personal care as required
  • Supporting students on off-site trips and activities as required
  • Maintaining professional confidentiality with regard to student information
  • Positive relationships with students with special needs  
  • Supervision and supporting students with special conditions as necessary
  • Attending professional development as required
  • To be able to work independently and as part of a team

The successful applicant will already be in New Zealand and able to work and live here on a permanent basis without restrictions or the requirement for sponsorship or an offer of employment.

As per Ministry of Education regulations, you will be required to undergo a Police Check.
