Waitākere College

Arts & Culture

Our students shine in arts and cultural activities.

A wide range of cultural activities provides opportunities for students to develop talents, acquire new skills, and discover the work of other artists.

  • Culture groups include our Kapa haka, Indian, African, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and our many Pasifika groups.
  • Music and Drama opportunities include: school show, talent quest, a-cappella singing, jazz band and solo performances.
  • Dance, Performance, and Media – we have more than 100 participants in our award-winning stage challenge entries. We produce plays and dance shows, and our annual Media awards showcase student-made films
  • Art and Technology – our art exhibitions, auctions of student work, Wearable Art and Trash to Fashion all feature cross-faculty talent
  • English and Languages – creative writing, debating, public speaking
  • Arts and Culture Week celebrates achievements across diverse areas and we enjoy an annual Arts and Cultural Awards Evening, where we present our supreme award, Te Taumata Toi.
  • Student exchanges and visits from overseas schools are also part of the cultural life of the College.
