Sports Academies


Our sports academies are designed to encourage students to achieve their sporting goals in their chosen sport. Application and trial date details are available on request.
Scholarships are available.

Year 9 Sports Academies Available are:

Sports academy trials are held on the first school day of each year.
You can only be in ONE Year 9 Sports Academy class - these classes run for the whole year

Year 9 Netball Academy

This is a timetabled class that runs five out of the six timetabled days in the school week, during the regular school day and runs through the whole year. The class has a netball focus with netball specific training sessions looking to improve technical ability, game understanding and ultimately improve students' overall performance. The class also has a strength and conditioning focus.  
The class is run by one of the school's premier netball coaches.
Students are selected for this academy class and must play their chosen sport for a school sports team.
The class also has a health focus covering the health curriculum requirements for the year.

Year 9 Basketball Academy - Mr Stevens

This is a timetabled class that runs five out of the six timetabled days in the school week, during the regular school day and runs through the whole year. The class has a basketball focus with basketball specific training sessions looking to improve technical ability, game understanding, and ultimately improve students' overall performance. The class also has a strength and conditioning focus.  
The class is run by one of the school's premier basketball coaches.
Students are selected for this academy class and must play their chosen sport for a school sports team.

Year 9 Football Academy - Mr Mulrooney 

This is a timetabled class that runs five out of the six timetabled days in the school week, during the regular school day and runs through the whole year. The class has a football focus with football specific training sessions looking to improve technical ability, game understanding and ultimately improve students' overall performance. The class also has a strength and conditioning focus.  
The class is run by one of the school's premier football coaches.

Year 9 Rugby Academy - Mr McGrath

This is a timetabled class that runs five out of the six timetabled days in the school week, during the regular school day and runs through the whole year. The class has a rugby focus with rugby specific training sessions looking to improve technical ability, game understanding and ultimately improve students' overall performance. The class also has a strength and conditioning focus.  
The class is run by one of the school's premier rugby coaches.
Students are selected for this academy class and must play their chosen sport for a school sports team.
The class also has a health focus covering the health curriculum requirements for the year.

Year 10 Sports Academies Available are:

In Year 10, we combine our Sports Academy classes with the PE curriculum.
All classes do the same theory component (Introduction to Anatomy), but each class has a sport-specific focus in the students' selected sport.
 
You can only be in ONE 10SPS Sports Academy class.
These classes run for Two Terms only.


Year 10 Sport Science Class - Basketball

Specialised basketball option. This is a timetabled Year 10 class that runs 5 out of 6 timetabled days of the school week. Within this class, students
get 3-5 basketball-specific coaching sessions per cycle with our premier basketball coach. The theory component of the option focuses on a basic introduction to anatomy. 

  • Students must play basketball for a school team to be considered for this option.


Year 10 Sport Science Class – Rugby

Specialised rugby option. This is a timetabled Year 10 class that runs 5 out of 6 timetabled days of the school week. Within this class, students get 3-5
rugby-specific coaching sessions per cycle with our premier rugby coach. The theory component of the option focuses on a basic introduction to anatomy. 

  • Students must play rugby for a school to be considered for this option.


Year 10 Sport Science Class - Football

Specialised football option. This is a timetabled Year 10 class that runs 5 out of 6 timetabled days of the school week. Within this class, students get
3-5 football-specific coaching sessions per cycle with our premier football coach. The theory component of the option focuses on a basic introduction to anatomy. 

  • Students must play football for a school team to be considered for this option.

There are also generic 10 Sport Science Classes for students who do not want to specialise in a chosen sport.
