Waitākere College is a state coeducational secondary school (Years 9 - 13) in Henderson, Auckland, with just over 2000 students.
We are guided by "The Waitākere Way" - focusing on learning (core academic focus with high expectations and termly SMART goals), caring (creating a safe, happy environment where students thrive), and respect (promoting tolerance, honesty, integrity, and self-respect for others). This fosters a tight-knit community that feels like a "second home and family," celebrating cultural diversity (e.g., through events like fiafia night, honouring language weeks and our huge range of cultural groups).
Our vision is "Achievement for All,"Achievement for All'. Our teachers believe every student can achieve with three pillars: ambitious students, high-performing teachers, and engaged parent/whānau involvement.
Academic Excellence:
Waitākere has a strong reputation for above-national-average NCEA results. Programs are tailored to individual needs, with a broad curriculum and specialised classes such as SHINE (gifted and talented) and Rumaki (full immersion Māori-language program).
Diverse Vocational and Academic Programs:
Beyond core subjects, the school offers specialised Gateway Academies in areas like Automotive, Engineering, Building & Construction, Hospitality, Mechatronics, Mahi-a-Toi (Māori arts) and Services Academy for practical, career-focused learning.
We also feature a Medical Science Academy, a Sports Academy, a Performing Arts Academy, as well as our Inclusion Support Centre. Exciting new additions include a School of Business opening to all Year 13 students in 2026, founded by Tony Faulkenstein with support from the University of Auckland, AUT and University of Waikato Management School.
Modern Facilities and Extracurricular Opportunities: The college supports a wide range of activities, including a diverse range of clubs and after-school activities, cultural programs, and camps, as well as opportunities for overseas trips through our classics and language subjects. 2025 saw our students head to Italy, Greece and China.
Waitākere College stands out for its inclusive, achievement-oriented approach in West Auckland's multicultural community, preparing students for success through personalised support and real-world opportunities. Visit our Enrol Now page for more information.
