Ms Tai Tin Wins Waitākere College Staff Scholarship

June has been here for almost 20 years! The Board recognises her as an acknowledged leader and innovator amongst the staff, who is committed to making a difference for our Waitākere College students.

June is the worthy recipient of the Waitākere College Staff Scholarship for 2022. June has been here for almost 20 years! The Board recognises her as an acknowledged leader and innovator amongst the staff, who is committed to making a difference for our Waitākere College students.

She is a recognised and respected leader;

  • Current HoD of Health education leading a core subject in this college and has built a strong loyal team of teachers for the college and community
  • Manages a team of Health Teachers from multiple departments
  • Formerly Assistant HOD PE
  • Coordinates end-of-year Big Day In
  • Manages and runs the Year 9 EOTC and Year 10 camp
  • Works with Liam Mulrooney, Director of Sport, to ensure sport has a high profile in the college

Makes developments in the curriculum;

  • Co-ordinates a wide range of Health and Sport related courses for Level 1 to Level 3 across the college to cater for a range of students needs.
  • Has a strong network in West Auckland around Health and PE to work on initiatives relevant for our students.
  • Has integrated Achievement Standards that include numeracy / literacy
  • Helped develop Level 2 Pathways West Health Academy
  • Proficient at all this IT and Kamar, training staff regularly in her own departments and across the school

Active coach and other sports commitments;

  • Helps coordinate Touch and Tag
  • Manager XV Rugby 2022
  • Coaches Volleyball
  • Helps run intra school Basketball
  • Co leads the sports prize giving - the major public sporting event of the year
  • Helps coordinate Dragon boat racing
  • Runs and co-ordinates staff wellbeing fitness programme

Her mentoring roles;

  • Leader of the Māori Mentoring Programme @ Yr 11
  • Valued and active member of the Komiti Mana Maori and Pasifika Committee

As a result of her energy and skills in all of these areas, our students are in a position to reach their potential both academically and socially.
