Waitākere College

The Waitākere College Foundation is Looking for New Volunteer Trustees

The Waitākere College Foundation is a charitable trust formed by community leaders and past pupils of the College. Our sole purpose is to raise funds which are used to remove barriers to succeeding in education.

Established in 2015, the foundation has now directly supported over 250 students through donations exceeding $100,000 and we aspire to do so much more.  You can read more about the foundation and our work at our website www.wcf.nz

The trustee positions

We have two opportunities to become a Trustee of the Foundation. Depending on your experience, one could be the Chair.  This is a great opportunity to deepen our links to the community and get greater diversity around the table.  Trustees have a variety of responsibilities including governance of the foundation, direction, and hands-on activity to support our fundraising and consider distribution of funds to best serve our mission.  Some of the skills and interests we are particularly looking for in trustees include:

  • Leadership or active participation in community groups relevant to our kids (employer groups, education, training organisations, ethnic, church, sporting, etc)

  • Fundraising including campaigns, events or passive means

  • Marketing or entrepreneurial experience

  • Governance, legal & planning

Above all, you’ll have a passion for seeing young people thrive.

How you’ll help

As a trustee, it’s important you believe in our purpose to remove barriers and want to roll up your sleeves to help make that happen.  You’ll also have the following attributes:

  • A strong interest in enabling educational pathways to maximise the value of our work

  • Strengthen our links to the broader Waitākere City region

  • Be good at organising initiatives and helping lead others to achieve successful outcomes

  • You are creative, good at strategic thinking, or have an eye for identifying opportunities

  • You will commit to attending a monthly meeting up to ten times a year (held early evening on a weekday) plus involvement in planning and implementing 1-2 initiatives per year

The foundation is a charitable trust and all of our Trustees are voluntary positions.  By joining the foundation, you will gain governance experience managing an established and successful foundation while helping make a tangible and long-lasting difference for our kids in the community.
