On Tuesday, 16 level three Art students participated in the first Part of the Pat Hanly Creativity Project at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. The Pat Hanly Creativity Project is a prestigious programme that celebrates and nurtures the creativity of young artists across Auckland. It provides students with the opportunity to develop their artistic skills, engage with professional artists and educators, and exhibit their work in a highly regarded public space.
As part of the day, students visited exhibitions, had discussions about the works they were viewing, took photographs using really fun thermal cameras, and participated in a printmaking workshop with artist Ani O'Neill. From here, the students at school will develop their own original artwork (medium of their choice) based on the 2025 project theme, Ko wai au? Who am I?. Gallery staff will then visit our school to view students’ finished artworks. Students will talk about their art, and the Gallery staff will give students feedback (one positive and something to think about for growth).
The judges will select at least one artwork per school to be exhibited in the Pat Hanly Creativity Exhibition and Awards at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. There will be a Young Gallery Night celebration and exhibition opening event on Friday 15 August, 6:00 - 9:00 pm, open to all participating students, teachers, family and friends. This event celebrates young creatives and will include food, music, dancing and art activations.
We will showcase the work students have made in a future newsletter.
