Robotics Showdown: Year 9-11 Students Battle with Bots

On the first two days of Term 2, the Digital Technologies students from Years 9-11 were provided with an awesome opportunity to work with robotics. Under the organisation of Mr Semmons, we had special guests from a STEAM cell education team at MOTAT, Hamish and Jazmine. This program was kindly sponsored by our friends at PB Tech.

The course involved an hour of fun with Battle Bots, including finishing the code, designing the robot and watching them fight in an arena. They program the bots to stay within the black lines that make the arena and charge at full speed when they detect an obstacle in front of them, leading them to attack the opposing group's robot.

The students learned the most effective ways to build onto their robots through trial and error. They learned the correct way to follow prototype designing and testing procedures.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the course, especially cheering their robot on while battling other groups. The two educators did an amazing job of teaching the courses over the two days and keeping the students engaged in the activity.
