It's been a big month for the senior Geography classes. In early May, the Year 12 class travelled down country to spend a few days at the Tongariro National Park to learn about the volcanic environment and collect some data for a research assessment. The weather played ball and we were treated to magnificent views of the maunga over the three days. The students were even better, diving into everything, full of enthusiasm! We visited a variety of environments and collected some high-quality data. Lots of fun was had back at the accommodation and the whole class got to know one another a little better. Overall, it was a huge success. Here's to another one next year!
Then, last week, the Year 13s spent a day visiting both Long Bay and Muriwai Beaches in order to help them understand the coastal environment and, again, collect some data for a research assessment. We were also lucky enough to be joined by Miss Millar - currently on maternity leave - who was able to help out and share her knowledge and experience.
The weather held out, and the students were able to collect some good data. We were also lucky to witness some incredible acrobatics by a pod of dolphins that came to visit! Once again, a great success and more than worth all the organisation and effort. A big thanks to our resident photographers - Cheyanne and Danica for some fantastic shots - love your work!
A special thanks also goes to Miss Harris - new to the department this year, but taking it all on like a pro and keeping everything running smoothly.
