As the Dean of this group, I was so incredibly privileged to be able to attend the final day of their camp at Whatipu Lodge. During this camp, ākonga completed an assessment where they devised a piece inspired by the physical environment as well as the history of the whenua. I find it hard to put into words how proud I was of all of the ākonga during their performances. I had goosebumps and had to hide my tears throughout the day. Also, as a History teacher, I have huge respect for how they all were able to show consideration of the deep Māori history of the whenua and the role that colonisation has played on the environment and te ao Māori more widely. SO PROUD!
