Kia whakanuia e 50 ngā tau o te kaupapa nei! This year it is the 50th anniversary of Te Wiki o Te reo Māori here in Aotearoa.

Waitākere College celebrated Te wiki o Te reo Māori 2022 with a wide range of activities.

We kicked our week off with a staff Kemu Mataku - Fear Factor! Aroha took the house points with Mr Gibbs eating the most - mussels, paua, fish eye balls, and tuatua, only leaving his kina untouched. We held kahoots, performances, colouring competitions, and celebrated with waiata under the bubble.

On Monday, Te Rito Rūmaki visited Henderson Intermediate to meet the students of Te Whānau Moko and have a korero of what high school is like. This gave the Year 8s who are getting ready to move on to secondary school a chance to ask questions on what high school is like.

We were greeted by Matua Mark Snowden , Whaea Rongomai and Kōkā Ernie . After a quick round of whakawhanaungatanga our wā wananga began where the Henderson Intermediate tauira were given an opportunity to ask questions to their tuakana.

Following that, the tamariki then played games with each other and continued to build the whānaungatanga between our two kura.
