Waitākere College

Book Week at Waitākere College Was Once Again a Huge Success.

Here’s a snapshot of all the fun activities that took place last week.

The book race quiz ran daily behind the scenes with students answering questions based on a short story.  Congratulations to the following students Aditya Sharma, Madison Bryant, Laurie Nay, Xiao-Mei Williams, Marshee Alora and Nathan Alexander Siaosi whose names were drawn from among the correct entries.  This was hugely popular and we received 384 entries!

On Monday we had the privilege of a visit from well-known Kiwi author, Brian Falkner, followed by a fun book cover quiz at lunchtime.

Tuesday lunchtime was our great new initiative, Tech Free Tuesday.  It’s great to see students off their devices, playing board games, reading and enjoying connecting with each other without their phones!  We’re so happy to see how well the students have adapted to Tech Free Tuesday and how much they are enjoying themselves.

Wednesday lunchtime we had a bookmark design competition. Thank you to all who participated. Congratulations to Dante Ricket and Matilda Otter-Lowe who designed the winning bookmarks which will be used as part of our bookmark collection to give to students when issuing books.

Thursday was the highlight of the week with our big book giveaway at lunchtime. Hundreds of books were given away to students. Thank you to the many staff and students who donated such a wide range of amazing books. We couldn’t do the big book giveaway without your help and our students really appreciate the opportunity to choose a few books to take home and keep.

So next time you have time on your hands, take the advice of Dr Seuss and our friends Thing 1 and Thing 2 who share the following wisdom with us.
