Classical Studies Scholarship Win

Immense pride as another student, Wonjun Cho receives a Classical Studies Scholarship!

New Zealand Scholarship is an award that recognises the top 3% of secondary school students in each field.

Wonjun is the first student to achieve a Classical Studies Scholarship at Waitākere College. The paper required him to write three essays. The first was on the career of Emperor Augustus, and the second was on Alexander the Great. He also had to examine four unknown sources about authority and power in the Roman Empire and connect them to his broader knowledge of this issue.

To succeed in this exam, he had to show both detailed knowledge of specific periods as well as an ability to connect these to a much broader understanding and knowledge of the ancient world. The key to scholarship classical studies is also to be able to show individual judgement and insight into the period. His success testifies to his ability to do all these things under the pressure of a three hour exam.

Wonjun's Teacher, Mr Richard Marshall and Waitākere College are incredibly proud!
