Student Business Assessment at Te Kawerau

On Friday 8th of March, ten Year 11 students visited the headquarters of Te Kawerau ā Maki as part of their internal business assessment on financial decision making.

The aim of the assessment is for the students to help the organisation make a Financial decision. At the moment, Te Kawerau ā Maki are in the process of building a marae at Te Henga, Bethells beach - their first marae since 1910 when it was taken over and destroyed. They are also considering building a second marae at Onekiritea, Hobsonville Point. The students are researching the organisation - their values and their history - and will help them decide whether to go ahead with the marae at Te Henga or the one at Onekiritea first.

The students were met by Josie Wall the  Kaiārahi Mātauranga - Education Lead and Edward Ashby the CEO of the Te Kawerau ā Maki trust. The students asked carefully thought out questions which will help them complete their assessment. This meeting is a perfect example of students experiencing how businesses operate in the Real World and the financial decisions that they encounter.
