Building Futures Through Vocational Pathways

It is always rewarding to see our Building Academy students successfully complete this two-year program and move forward into apprenticeships or construction-related jobs after high school.
Kelepi Aisea, one of our former students from the class of 2024, has made a strong impression on Hawkins Construction as well as the Downer Group by securing a paid work opportunity at Waitākere Hospital through our partnership with the Auckland Job and Skills Hub. Hawkins Construction is renowned for its expertise in managing large-scale, complex healthcare construction projects. They are currently working on a significant ICU building at Waitākere Hospital and, toward the end of 2024, offered 13 employment opportunities to students across Auckland. Kelepi was among the successful candidates.

Visiting Kelepi on-site at Waitākere Hospital showcased his passion for construction and allowed us to see him applying the skills he learned throughout the two-year Building Academy. In the future, Kelepi will take pride in knowing he contributed to building part of the new ICU unit at Waitākere Hospital. He has received commendations from his supervisors for being a hard worker, a motivated team member, and an all-around excellent addition to the company. Malo Aupito, Kelepi. Malo Ngaue.

We also wish to express our gratitude to Sirene Vagana and Ben Birdsall from Auckland Jobs and Skills Hub, Construction and Infrastructure, for consistently providing our students with valuable employment opportunities outside of school that can lead to full-time employment.
