Today, our Filipino rangatahi and kaiako gathered to proudly commemorate the 127th Philippine Independence Day with a special flag raising ceremony at the front of the school. Although it was pouring earlier this morning, the rain miraculously stopped just before we began, the sun came out during the ceremony, and then the rain returned right after, as if nature paused with us to honour the moment.
This week has been extra special for our Filipino community. On Saturday, 7 June 2025, during the Grand Annual Philippine Independence Day Commemoration at the Auckland ASB Showgrounds—the biggest Filipino event in New Zealand—our very own Agsūbay Filipino Ensemble, who performed at the event, was proudly featured on TVNZ’s One News.
Mabuhay to our Filipino students and teachers for continuing to represent their culture with pride and mana here at Waitākere College!
