On Tuesday 24th June, the most colourful event in the history of the school took place. Waitākere College hosted its very first (and hopefully not the last 😉) Colour Fun Run. Open to all Year 9s, 10s and our Inclusion Support Centre who participated in our school fundraiser to upgrade our school weights room into a more functional fitness space for students to use in the Physical Education and Sports programmes.
This whole event was able to be tied in with a Level 3 Sport assessment worth 4 credits. The day was set up like an obstacle course with a bit of colour here, a bit of colour there and a lot of colour everywhere! These Level 3 Sport students did an amazing job running each station on the day and helped create fun and colourful vibes on the field all afternoon.
To add to the colour fun, we even hired a photo booth, a super soaker station, a snow machine and set up the good old trusty water slide that everyone can't get enough of.
Our overall fundraising total hit $21,000! We would like to take this opportunity to thank our parents and their friends and family who contributed to our school fundraiser. We set 5 milestones along the way and after some serious fundraising, we managed to slime all 9 Deans and 1 Assistant Principal. After hitting our final milestone of $20,000 the night before the event, we had a double sliming of our Principal, Mr Shanahan and Associate Principal, Mrs Fugmann in the middle of the Colour Run. Can we just say, what FANTASTIC sports we have in our Pastoral and Senior Leadership Team to put themselves in this position for a great cause. Not many School Principals will let their guard down the way Mr Shanahan did yesterday in front of hundreds of students. They absolutely loved it, as did the staff!
A massive congratulations to our Top 10 Students who secured a whopping $7495 amongst them!
