Embracing Adventure with Outward Bound

By Aisha Teale

Outward Bound was such a cool experience! Over the three weeks, I made amazing friends. I got to do so many cool things I wouldn't usually be able to do, including sailing down the Marlborough Sounds, tramping, a solo stay in the bush overnight, rock climbing, high ropes, and doing a half-marathon at the end.

It tested our resilience, fostered teamwork, and took us out of our comfort zone. The first couple of days, we were all asking ourselves why we were there, thinking this isn't fun, but we quickly realised that it was actually cool to be so connected to nature and each other without the distraction of devices. We built up our fitness with a run every morning, followed by a swim in the freezing cold water afterwards. The weeks went by so fast, and I was sad when it was over. I am so grateful to have received a scholarship, which allowed me to have this incredible opportunity.

If I were able to do the whole thing again, I definitely would, and I wish everyone could have the opportunity to go to Outward Bound!
