Congratulations to the Prem boys basketball team, who won a crucial game against Pakuranga College this week, with a score of 89-84, securing their spot in the AA grade for next year!

This is a significant achievement, as Waitākere Prems basketball has not played in the AA grade for over 20 years. After winning the Open Championship last year and their subsequent promotion game, they have certainly earned this opportunity. They had impressive victories against Liston College Prems and North Shore Colleges this season. It’s remarkable to see a young team succeed; Their rotation includes many Year 10s and 11s, which makes this achievement even more impressive. The team captain, Josiah Skeen, left midway through the season to pursue a basketball opportunity in America. 

Heartfelt thanks go to a dedicated volunteer, Kevin Pitout, who has recorded every single game, even though his son is not yet on the team. His efforts in filming and uploading the games have significantly enhanced their ability to learn and prepare for future matches.

We are also grateful for the tremendous contributions from our Head Coaches, Mr Brain, Mr Koonstra, Mr Stevens, and Team Manager, Wraps. Their focus on technical plays and skill development has elevated the team to compete at this high level of college basketball. Playing against talented New Zealand rep players and holding their own is a testament to what they have achieved.

The players' parents have also emailed the school to thank the coaches and managers for their extra efforts for the children. They appreciated the delicious hot meals prepared before games and during early morning practices, as well as the travel arrangements. All of this has not gone unnoticed and is deeply appreciated. Additionally, the parents noted the technical skills the boys have acquired and the growth they have experienced as athletes.
