Pat Hanly Creative Project

Year 13 Sculpture students Ariel Blumberg, Ava Porter and Taipua Kipa have been selected as part of the Pat Hanly Creativity Awards Exhibition 2025 at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki.

Miss Craig worked with 16 interested Level 3 students on this project, who showed an interest in following a creative pathway. The students attended a workshop at the gallery, worked with an artist, and then had a critique session with the gallery. 10 students committed and completed the full programme and the gallery was really impressed with all of our students' work

This year, the project had 28 secondary schools, and over 1,000 students participated in the project. Only 34 were selected for the exhibition, with 3 of the finalists from Waitākere College.

We attended the opening last Friday, with all the students' Whānau in attendance. The attendees of the exhibit and other students involved were very impressed by the works of our students. Taipua’s Kakahu was suspended in the space so the construction and details could really be admired by getting a closer glimpse at both sides. Ariel's small Sculpy clay sculptures really drew people in, and many were caught leaning in to inspect them for a closer look. Ava's Crochet blanket was hung on the wall and you were able to inspect all the details and different shell forms she had constructed with the wool.

The students' works will be on display at the Auckland Art Gallery from 15-31 August if you woud like to check it out in your own time. They are all excellence-level Sculpture students and very talented artists.
