It has been a couple of weeks now since our Spoken Word poets: Team Waitak, received the news about getting through to Word - The Front Line’s Grand Slam for 2025! Congratulations to Delta Johns, Esha Ram, Taipua Kipa, Mya Bennett, and Angelica Sabili for producing such astounding and well-crafted pieces. Their hard work, practice hours, diligence and amount of pressure has enabled them to stand up on those mics with pride, not only for the college, but for themselves!

In just two weeks' time, the grand slam will be taking place. We would LOVE to have as many of our supporters show up and support our amazing rangatahi. Team Waitak are going up against: Zayed College For Girls, Dilworth School, Wesley College, Diocesan School For Girls and Ngā Puna o Waiōrea.

A big ngā mihi nui to our supporters: our parents, our teachers, and friends. To the team’s coach, Lex Shoemark, who has been supportive all the way through their journey, the sounding board our rangatahi didn’t know they needed. Last but not least, to Action Education for providing our rangatahi with all the wrap around support during the journey this far. The manaakitanga and whanaungatanga haven’t gone unnoticed! This programme and platform that the organisation has given our young people has been beautifully overwhelming.
