Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – He Tau Kōura, He Wā Whakamānawa

This year’s Te Wiki o te Reo Māori was truly special. As Aotearoa celebrated 50 years of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, our kura also marked its own 50-year jubilee , a golden alignment that made this kaupapa even more meaningful.

We opened with waiata as the tino rangatiratanga flag was raised, setting the tone for the week. From there, our tauira took the lead, creating kaupapa that were interactive, engaging, and deeply connected to te ao Māori. Every waiata, kēmu, and kōrero reflected laughter, learning, and whanaungatanga.

A huge mihi to our rūmaki tauira, you are our ancestors of tomorrow, and you held our kaupapa like true rangatira. We also acknowledge Matua Russell for leading an incredible initiative and challenging kaiako and tauira to kōrero Māori each day.

More than just a celebration, this week was a reminder that te reo me ōna tikanga are treasures to live by, ia rā, ia rā.

Ko kī pai te kapu wairua - our wairua cup is well and full. Hari Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori!
