Waitākere College Students Step Up for Rathgar Revival

While most students were enjoying a well-deserved break, four incredible young leaders from Waitākere College - Taipua Kipa, Cheyenne Heka, Matilda Otter-Lowe and Lola Porter -  chose to come into school and give back to their community. With creativity and heart, these students came together to design and create captivating banners that reflected their values, beliefs and bold visions for the future of the Rathgar neighbourhood.

Their commitment didn’t stop there. They joined us at the Rathgar Rally held at Seed 2 Harvest, where local residents and affiliates of Community Waitākere came together to present our collective hopes and strategic plans for the revival of Rathgar. The audience included future decision-makers—those running for the Henderson-Massey Local Board and other local council roles.

A highlight of the evening was a powerful speech delivered by Taipua Kipa, one of Waitākere College’s head prefects. He shared his vision of transforming our alleyways into safe, welcoming spaces filled with vibrant murals created by students from our local schools. His words resonated deeply, painting a future where creativity and community go hand in hand.

These students exemplify the spirit of rangatahi leadership and community pride. Their actions remind us that the future of Rathgar is not only in good hands - it’s in inspired ones.
