Over the summer holidays, Maia Masters competed in the Waitākere colours at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Championships. Maia comfortably progressed through the heats and semi-finals on Friday and Saturday, qualifying for the finals in both the 100m and 200m on Sunday.
Maia finished an impressive 5th in the 100m final and 4th in the 200m final, narrowly missing out on a medal. She also recorded personal best times of 12.00 seconds (100m) and 24.48 seconds (200m), an encouraging start to the summer track season ahead.
Overall, a massive effort from Maia at her first athletics meet since returning from a foot injury sustained a year ago — a fantastic achievement and a great sign of things to come.
