Following the success of last year’s sleepout pilot, the Building Academy is off to an ambitious start. We are expanding our horizons, our student capacity, and our professional workshop environment.
Current Student Projects
Our students are bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world construction:
BCA13 (Year 13) Fale Project: Students are tackling the construction of a large Fale. This project will stand alongside our 2025 builds, creating a lasting legacy of craftsmanship on-site.
BCA12 (Year 12) Competency: Our Year 12s are engaged in a "Test Project" to build confidence with specialised equipment, mastering complex cuts and an expanded range of battery-powered tools.
Sleepout Foundations: Currently at the foundation stage, students are discovering that full-scale building requires a different level of physical grit and precision than standard Woodtech classes.
Workshop & Innovation
To support our growing numbers, we have doubled our workshop capacity. A key feature of this expansion is the newly installed French cleat wall system, providing a modular and highly organised environment that evolves alongside our project needs. The safety of our students remains our absolute priority. We are committed to providing high-quality resources while strictly upholding the Ministry of Education’s health and safety standards.
As we move through the first term, the progress is already evident. Watching the BCA12s rediscover the importance of "measuring twice, cutting once" and seeing the BCA13s take ownership of a cultural landmark like the Fale reminds us why this program is so vital.
Thank you to the parents for your continued support and for trusting us with your students' education. It is a privilege to lead this group as they build not just structures, but their own professional futures.
