While the group originally formed last year - debuting at the 2025 Fiafia night - this marked their inaugural appearance on the big stage.
Led by Monique Rataro and Rumina Nielu, the seven dancers performed a set centred on the Polyfest theme: "The environment lives in me, as I live in it." Through their movement, the group expressed a deep connection to their villages, land, and heritage. Their final piece paid tribute to the sacred meeting houses integral to the Kiribati community.
The group committed many long hours and taught themselves. We are very proud of their commitment and dedication. Ko Rabwa to the Kiribati families and community that pulled together to support and champion our Kiribati group. This would not have been possible without their families! Ko Rabwa also to Ms Hay, the Teacher in charge, thank you to Ms Liu for her support and awhi. Ko Rabwa to Ms Passi for providing the food and support.
As Monique shared during her Polyfest speech:
"Our culture means a lot to us, and dancing is how we connect with one another. We imitate the national bird of Kiribati, the Frigate bird, which symbolises freedom and our connection to the ocean. It is a way for us to feel closer to home and keep our language alive. Te mauri te raoi ao te tabomoa."
