As the community may be aware, Auckland Transport (AT) has recently begun engaging with the public regarding the Western Line Level Crossings Programme. Over the next two years, AT’s focus will be to identify and develop plans for removing or replacing all rail level crossings on the Western Line.
The school is an important part of the neighbourhood, and AT would welcome the opportunity to work with the local community about the level crossings programme.
AT is seeking feedback for the Western Line Level Crossing Programme:
The opening of the City Rail Link this year will mean significant cuts in journey times (especially from the west), more frequent trains across the network, and easier connections with people and places.
Replacing rail level crossings with safer connections is a key part of making this happen. It allows for more trains to run in the future while making it safer for people to get around the community.
Auckland Transport, with support from KiwiRail, is removing or replacing all remaining level crossings in Auckland, including 21 on the Western Line. This staged approach is designed to help unlock the full benefits of the City Rail Link. A level crossing is defined as a place where people walk or drive directly over railway tracks.
There will be a number of challenges and trade-offs involved in deciding a solution for each crossing—including value for money, community impacts, access, and feasibility.
AT wants to know how people travel through and around level crossings. Community members can take the survey or visit a drop-in session to speak with the team.
Further information is available on the project website, including where the team will be at various drop-in sessions:https://at.govt.nz/projects-and-initiatives-western-line-level-crossings
Please feel free to get in touch with any questions. The project team is happy to discuss the Level Crossings Programme and hear thoughts on how removing or replacing level crossings may impact the school community.
