Waitākere College

He Tohu Whakahirahira Mō Tō Tātou Kura - Polyfest Kapa Haka 2026

For the first time in our school’s history, Waitākere College proudly had two kapa haka rōpū take the stage at Polyfest this year (Week 10 of Term 1) - a significant milestone that reflects the strength, growth, and commitment to te ahurea Māori within our kura

Ngā Pae Kōtihi o Waitākere performed in Division 3 (non-competitive), while Ngā Pae Maunga o Waitākere represented our kura in the Division 2 competitive section. Both groups upheld the mana of our kura with pride, passion, and māori excellence.

A special acknowledgement to our kaitātaki (leaders):

  • Ngā Pae Maunga o Waitākere: Rio Mason and Rosie Dent
  • Ngā Pae Kōtihi o Waitākere: Daysie Beqach-Field and Delilah Harris

We also extend our mihi to our kaiako who supported our tauira through noho (weekend wānanga), and to our dedicated tutors across both rōpū who poured countless hours into preparing our students for the stage.

This achievement is a testament to the collective effort, resilience, and wairua of everyone involved. We are incredibly proud of both rōpū and look forward to what the next Kapa Haka kaupapa holds!

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa.
