Our Year 12 Drama students recently took to the stage in the Jackson Auditorium for their production of Monster of the Week. This performance was the culmination of a significant journey, as students have been working diligently on this 5-credit assessment since Term 1.
The production was held over two nights, Wednesday 29th April and Thursday 30th April. To give as many students as possible the opportunity to showcase their talent, we featured different casts across the two performances for many of the lead roles.
What made this production truly remarkable was the level of responsibility taken on by our young performers. Not only did they shine as actors, but they served as the entire crew as well. Throughout the show, the students managed themselves completely, handling all set changes and backstage transitions without the help of a stage manager or teacher. They really came together as an awesome team, and we are incredibly proud of the responsibility they displayed.
Monster of the Week is a cult meta-horror that explores the obsession of five friends in Auckland who discover lost VHS tapes of a 90s teen series. Originally created by the theatre company A Slightly Isolated Dog, the play was adapted by playwright Leo Gene Peters specifically for our Year 12 Drama class. We are very grateful to A Slightly Isolated Dog for allowing us to use and alter their original script to work for our students.
Special Thanks
A production of this scale requires plenty of support behind the scenes. We would like to extend a huge thank you to:
- Santokh Mekuri, Maddison Meredith, and Bailey Alexander for their expert work on sound and lighting.
- The Theatre Company "A Slightly Isolated Dog" for providing the foundation for our performance.
- The Audience for coming out and supporting our drama rangatahi in their performance.
Congratulations to the entire cast and ensemble for an unforgettable show!
- Ms Foulds
