Improving the Rathgar Road Pedestrian Crossings

A message from Auckland Transport

The two pedestrian crossings on Rathgar Road, one near St Dominic’s Girls Catholic School and the other near Waitakere College are very well used, especially before and after school. We’ve had some concerns raised that it can be difficult for drivers to see pedestrians because vehicles are parking close to the crossings.

To improve visibility and safety, we’ll be installing “no stopping at all times” markings (broken yellow lines) near each crossing. These changes will prevent parked vehicles from blocking the view of drivers’ and make it safer and easier for people, especially students, to cross the road.

Drawings showing where the broken yellow lines will be installed are included with this letter.

We plan to make these changes at the end of June 2026. These will take one day to complete, depending on the weather.

If you have any questions or comments on the plans, please email us at [email protected] or leave a comment on our website by 15 May 2026.
