Ezekiel Taumoepeau Claims Judge’s Choice Film Award

We are thrilled to celebrate another major achievement in our Media Studies department! Ezekiel Taumoepeau has been named a top winner in the prestigious Day One Filmmaking Challenge, taking home the Judge’s Choice Award for his documentary, Bedroom Studios.

Produced in 2025, Ezekiel’s film offers an intimate and moving portrait of young rapper Steven Campbell. The documentary follows Steven's journey of self-discovery and the relentless pursuit of a dream, capturing the magic that happens when an artist finds their voice within the four walls of their own room.

The competition judges were captivated by the film’s raw energy and emotional depth, praising its "real authenticity" and human connection. In their official feedback, the panel noted:

"When a story is this honest, perfect filmmaking almost isn't the point. The cinematography has a real authenticity to it... Steven is warm, real, and disarmingly honest, and that honesty is what makes this whole film soar."

The Grand Prize
In recognition of his talent and vision, Ezekiel has walked away with a fantastic haul of prizes to support his future projects:

  • 2-week Nikon Gear Rental
  • $100 Nikon Voucher
  • $100 Prezzy Card

  • An exclusive Mentorship Session

We are incredibly proud of Ezekiel for his dedication to his craft and his ability to tell stories that resonate so deeply with an audience. This award highlights the high calibre of work being produced by our students here at school.
