Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple Visit

Last Thursday, 14th May, our Year 10 Chinese students visited the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple as part of the 3G/4G Festival of Cultural Sharing. The visit focused on exploring the Three Acts of Goodness (3G) and Four Givings (4G), and how these values remain relevant for young people in 2026 through positive relationships, wellbeing, and responsible decision-making.

The experience provided students with an opportunity to engage with cultures and perspectives within our wider Auckland community while reinforcing values such as empathy, inclusion, respect, and social connection. Students learned about the Three Acts of Goodness: Do Good Deeds, Speak Good Words, and Think Good Thoughts. They reflected on how these ideas align closely with our school’s ongoing focus on wellbeing, online responsibility, and anti-bullying initiatives, including Pink Shirt Day.

Students were also introduced to the Four Givings: giving others confidence, joy, hope, and convenience. It was especially valuable to see local police officers involved in the programme, sharing practical examples of how these values can guide positive choices and strengthen community relationships. Ringing the wishing bell and exploring the peaceful temple grounds, including the Bodhi trees and cultural displays, left a lasting impression on many students.

The calm and welcoming atmosphere of the temple made the day both meaningful and memorable. Overall, the trip was a valuable cultural learning experience that encouraged reflection, connection, and positive action within our school community.
