A future career can start with a single conversation, a new idea, or even one inspiring day out, and that’s exactly what many of our Waitākere College students experienced at this year’s Careers Expo.
Vocational Pathways students recently attended the Careers Expo at The Trusts Arena on 6 May, accompanied by kaiako. Around 100 of our Year 13 students participated in the event, joining many local secondary schools in exploring a wide range of future-focused opportunities.
The expo featured more than 55 exhibitors, including universities, tertiary providers, apprenticeship organisations, industry representatives, training establishments, and employers. Throughout the day, students took part in interactive activities, asked questions, and spoke directly with exhibitors about qualifications, apprenticeships, tertiary study, industry training, and employment opportunities connected to their interests and aspirations.
This experience provided valuable exposure to post-school pathways and encouraged students to begin thinking more deeply about their future goals, training requirements, and career possibilities. It was pleasing to see our students representing Waitākere College positively and engaging respectfully and confidently with providers throughout the event.
We encourage whānau to continue these important career conversations at home and, where possible, attend upcoming information evenings and open days alongside their young person. These events provide an excellent opportunity for students and families to learn more about courses, scholarships, student support services, apprenticeships, accommodation options, and employment pathways directly from providers.
