On Tuesday, 12 students from Waitākere College attended the Distance Running Cross Country Championships at Lloyd Elsmore Park. Depending on their age category, students competed in races ranging from 3km to 6km.

The weather conditions were excellent, making it an enjoyable day for the runners and allowing them to focus on their races without having to battle difficult conditions. For several students, this was their first time representing the school and competing over these distances.

Some impressive performances and personal bests were achieved throughout the day. Blake Butler recorded an outstanding time of 19:39 in the 5km race, finishing 33rd out of 135 athletes. Lachlan Snook also performed strongly, running 22:49 in the 6km race and placing 24th out of 88 competitors.

Overall, it was a fantastic day and a great experience for all involved. A big thank you to Mr Hough and Mr Te’o for taking the students to the event, and to all the parents and family members who came along to support the team.
