Students were inspired by Henri Matisse’s 1946 large-scale collages Polynesian Sky and Polynesian Sea, in which Matisse playfully remembered his years spent in Tahiti. These students reimagined these works in the context of Aotearoa.
Each mural represents a collective memory; some students remembered swimming with stingrays at Te Hāwere-a-Maki (Goat Island), others remembered lying on the grass on a summer's day and staring into the sky. Be sure to stop by the T block courtyard to see the finished artworks.
