More than 50 rangatahi from across West Auckland, including 10 students from Waitākere College, recently gathered at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) North Campus for a day of learning, leadership and connection.

Throughout the day, students explored future study and career pathways in the sport and recreation industry while developing practical coaching, communication and leadership skills. These skills will support them in leading sports teams, mentoring younger students, and helping create more opportunities for physical activity through our interval and lunchtime programmes.

The day began with an introduction to AUT's sport, recreation and health programmes before students took part in a series of interactive workshops focused on leadership, coaching and decision-making.

Waitākere College students Ivana and Nancy also helped capture the day's activities by filming behind-the-scenes footage that showcased the energy and enjoyment of everyone involved.

Overall, it was a valuable day of learning, inspiration and collaboration that benefited both students and staff while strengthening the leadership skills that will help create more active opportunities within our school community.
