Football Academy

Students have the opportunity to apply for the Football Academy under the guidance of Coach Mr Liam Mulrooney. The academy runs Tuesdays period 5 throughout the year for selected year 9 and 10 students.


Criteria for Selection

Positions have been restricted to year 9 and 10 students
Those selected must maintain a sound academic programme and achievement
Excellent attendance
Must play football for the College in the team they are selected for

This is an exciting venture for Waitakere College in utilising the strengths of our staff to build up the skills and talents of our students.

Mr Liam Mulrooney
Liam Mulrooney is our Director of Sport and Teacher of Health and Physical Education. He has been an outstanding National league player in NZ for over 10 years and is a well-respected staff member with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Auckland. His playing career includes winning over 5 National League titles, 2 Oceania Champions League trophies and attending the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in 2006 with Auckland City FC.

Liam has worked with youth football players in a variety of different roles at Waitakere City, Bay Olympic, Oratia and Western Springs as well having coached for New Zealand Football at the National Talent Centres working with the elite youth players in the North Island. Liam holds the OFC C Coaching Licence. 

Liam has also coached for a number of years in senior football at Western Springs FC alongside NZ coaches Neil Emblen and Chris Zoricich. Liam is now the Premier Men's Assistant Coach at Bay Olympic FC in Auckland's Lotto NRFL Premier Men's Competition.
